Right after Twitter’s move from this week to make it easier for users to follow conversations around a tweet, the social network company has announced on Wednesday that they will introduce a new feature which will allow users to import and export block lists.
This step is aimed to help Twitter users to fight abuse. This feature enables users to organize their lists containing blocked users and share them with other people. This will free Twitter from spam and it will make it safer to use. In addition you can add more blocked users in the lists which were already shard by importing it in your account.
By having made these tools available to the wider community the company lets users block several accounts at once quicker and easier. The idea is to help blocking trolls which may target the same group.
At the top of your “Blocked accounts” page, under the advanced option, you can select the option “Export your list” and also choose which of your friends will receive your list of blocked accounts. Afterwards your friends can use their own blocked accounts page and choose whether they want to import the bock list which you shared. They can also add the trolls or spammers to their own list of banned users.
This feature can be useful for those who are part of larger organizations. Community managers of different business units could share their blocked users with colleagues. Larger online communities can also benefit from this. Members of such communities could block trolls who threaten and abuse users who share opinions and have discussions about topics which attract this type of online trolls.
The company has recently faced this kind of problems in recent months such as the GamerGate saga conflicts. Women in the gaming industry were faced with misogynistic and violent harassment such as threats with death, rape or sharing of personal information
Xiaoyun Zhang, user safety engineer at Twitter, wrote:
“You can now export and share your block lists with people in your community facing similar issues or import another user’s list into your own account and block multiple accounts all at once, instead of blocking them individually.”
He also added that the company hopes that through these advanced blocking tools will be beneficial for the developer community and that they will improve the users’ experience.
