Airports are some of the busiest and crowded places in the world. So every little tweak in the boarding process will have large-scale consequences. United Airlines strives to put the latest technology at good use. UA was among the first airlines to introduce mobile boarding passes in 2007. Right now, it offers the service in all 214 domestic airports, making it the first airline to do so. The United Airlines mobile app offers boarding at 54 international airports as well.
Now, UA introduces another useful feature. By using your smartphone, you will be able to chek-in by scanning your passport. Android and iOS users will be able to check-in this easy for international flights. As other apps with similar functionality, like banking apps, United Airlines mobile app will use your smartphone camera to take a picture of your passport. Afterwards, a third-party security service will additionally verify your passport information. If your passport is fine, a subsequent boarding pass will be sent you to print it.
You might end up saving some precious time. But what good is that extra time, if you will not manage it in your favor. You could do that by using one of the latest apps, Timeful Time Management App, released recently for iOS.
United Airlines mobile app lets you scan your passport and stores your info
The best part is that the app will store your passport information, so you will only have to scan it once. Next time you will only verify your stored passport information before checking-in. If you have to get a visa, you will have to go to the airport in advance for a complete check-in, though.
“We are focused on building the most useful travel app for our customers,” said Mark Nasr, United’s managing director of eCommerce. “The new passport scanning feature saves valuable time and provides customers with more options to control their travel experience.”
There is more than one good news. The app will provide other valuable information. Now you will be able to see when the boarding time ends and manage your time more efficiently than ever. This is exciting, because one of the disadvantages of flying is the unnecessary waiting time, especially on shorter flights.
So far, more than 13 million customers downloaded the new United Airlines mobile app released last year. Until the end of the year, United plans to redesign its website to offer a more intuitive interface and clearer and faster experience.
