Virtual Console Needs Some Updates to Be Successful on Switch

The Virtual Console service needs some updates before being introduced to Switch.

The Virtual Console will soon be released for the new Nintendo Switch. Nevertheless, gaming advisors argue that by simply reiterating the setup from previous consoles will not make it successful because it will not attract gamers who expect something new. And when a game developer does not fulfill the expectations of players, his or her game will not register the expected profit.

Nintendo should consider implementing some changes to the Virtual Console service

The previous launches of the Virtual Console appear to have had three significant problems. The launch window of a console is considered to be sensitive, and that is why Nintendo launched the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo Switch. Before releasing it, Nintendo should take care of making the necessary changes.

Gaming advisors claim that the costs for Virtual Console games should be reduced on the new Nintendo Switch. The previous prices for games like SNES and NES were extremely high, especially since they were some digital releases. Moreover, if we were to look at other such services like any smartphone app and Steam, they are a lot cheaper when it comes to their retro gaming production.

Nintendo could make a king gesture and save people from re-buying the same games, being an exploitative method

Another thing which could be changed for the benefit of both the gamer and the game developer concerns the drip-feeding of games’ releases. There were some previous drip-feeding releases which were already launched on other consoles. If Nintendo decides to launch the whole gaming library of the Virtual Console, it is significant to make an impact with gamers. At this point, Switch having a rich catalog of games to play will attract many customers.

Gaming advisors also noted that Nintendo should think about making available on the Switch some of the previous Virtual Console purchases. Most of the people who acquired a Nintendo console are used to re-purchase the exact Virtual Console games on every system. Gamers are tired to do this and request Nintendo to stop this practice. It is non-sense that they basically charge other money for old things. This method of marketing is quite exploitative.

Nintendo should consider changing this strategy if it is not ready to lose sales for the Nintendo Switch. To make it more accessible, Nintendo should make a kind gesture and save gamers the trouble of re-buying games. The setup of the Virtual Console system needs a big redesign to become successful.
