That there has been something cooking between HTC and Verizon with regards to the HTC flagship getting a Verizon label is all too well known. However, everything about it has been hush-hush so far and neither side has ever been eager to share anything. That was until Feb when HTC confirmed there will be no Verizon branded One smartphone. That sure was too much for the Verizon fans and followers to believe which led to renewed demand of the HTC One from Verizon.
In the meantime, while the other carriers in the US were busy releasing their HTC One packages, everyone had thought Verizon too will be following suit. However, that never happened though here is some update from a prominent HTC insider, @LlabTooFeR claiming the flagship phone will be launched between the second and third quarters of this year. This means we can expect the HTC One in Verizon colors only between May and September.
However, some sources point out Verizon could still be using the May 22 CTIA event to eventually announce the arrival of the HTC One though there are no reasons to believe things would go that way. In the meantime, rumor mongers also have it that Verizon might unveil the Lumia 928 running Windows 8 on May 22 along with the HTC Butterfly 2, with the later in reality to be Verizon’s HTC One.
Here is how it is. What we know of the Verizon HTC One is in reality the latest avatar of HTC Butterfly. Verizon, on its part, by not launching the HTC One wishes to be seen as opting for the upcoming flagship smartphone from HTC while also allowing consumers of its DROID DNA phone some more time to play around with their device before it launches a new smartphone. The HTC Butterfly 2 is expected to sport the same internals as that of the HTC One though some sources also point out it could be bigger that the One while breathing more fire as well. That way, Verizon will also be seen as offering something that’s different than what the other carriers are offering.
