However, news from India says Nokia and Microsoft are currently testing a notification center for Windows Phone 8’s GDR3 update. The GDR3 update is set to come out before the end of 2013 and may include support for 1080p displays and quad-core processors.
The notification center would allow Windows Phone 8 users a place to check all their notifications from every application, something Android and iOS have had for quite some time now.
With the live tiles, it does remove some of the need for a combined notification center. For users who do not want to check individual apps for updates and sometimes shove unwanted notifications aside, the notification center still seems like the best way to collect all the notifications.
Since the Windows Phone 8 OS is not big on gestures, with no home-screens and endless down scrolling to find the right app, it seems a little odd as to how people will access the notification center. Will it just be a tile with a number of notifications or will Microsoft add a way to drag left, right or up to access the notification center, the same as Android and iOS.
We wonder if Microsoft will also add some way to ping the user when they have a new notification. The former idea seems great for this, the tile would just increase the numbers as more notifications come in. Users click on the tile to access the notification center and sort notifications out.
Nokia is raring for the WP8 GDR3 update to be released, with the Nokia Bandit set to be the first phablet with a 1080p screen and quad-core processor on WP8, it could arrive just in time for the release.
