Finally the Windows Phone 8 Lumia phones have climbed aboard in the Indian market. The Nokia
Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 were launched in India on the 11th January 2013. This is roughly
after a time period of two months from its release date in various foreign countries. However, many
Nokia fans in India are relieved that they are one of the early birds to get the phones in the Asia
Pacific region.
India has always been a big market for Nokia, where the Finnish company still dominates in terms
of market share. What might have angered many people in India is the negligence of Nokia towards
them in the case of their high end phones, especially when its their flagship phone like the Lumia
920. This delay has actually cost Nokia since many people bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 and
HTC One X during the Diwali season. On top of that, the initial price of Rs 38,200 for Lumia 920
and Rs. 27,560 for Lumia 820 is very high according to the indian standards. Another top end
offering of Windows Phone 8 from HTC, the 8X, cost only Rs 32,500.
The Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 both have a 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor along
with 1 GB of RAM. However, the Lumia 920 has 32 GB storage space, with no memory expansion
slot, while the Lumia 820 carries only 8 GB with the option of expansion up to 64 GB. They both
have an 8 mp Carl Zeiss camera with the Lumia 920 having optical image stabilization.
Nokia has also announced a budget Windows Phone 8, Lumia 620 to target the mid-low end
market, which will be launched in February 2013. The speculated price of the phone is around Rs.
15K or less. This phone has a 1GHz dual core processor with 8 GB storage and 512 MB RAM. It
has a 5MP camera along with a front facing VGA camera.
