YouTube decided to lure its users into switching to its paid platform

To the disadvantage of artists, people are using YouTube to listen to their music in favor of other paid streaming services. This is why the company decided to look for a strategy to convince people to subscribe to its new unnamed streaming service. This strategy consists of displaying more ads between music videos, ads that will disappear in case of paid streaming.

Tricking users to subscribe to a different platform

YouTube will soon launch a paid streaming service that should be more to the benefit of the artists. People often choose this video streaming platform to listen to music because it’s free, and they prefer this than subscribe to a paid platform. To help the artists and convince people to subscribe to YouTube’s future paid streaming service, the head of the company announced their strategy.

Those people who will play music videos for a longer period of time will start seeing more and more ads. YouTube knows users are annoyed by ads, so it gives them a chance to be supportive while having a better listening experience. Moreover, YouTube added that it was planning to find out who is able to pay for streaming, and target these people for the ads.

YouTube says it was time for a paid streaming platform

This is not only a strategy to get people to subscribe to a paid streaming platform. For many years, the company has been the target of accusations for allowing videos that violated copyright and for not paying artists and record companies. This is a good way to compensate the artists for their work.

For many years, YouTube was that platform where you could find free content. This definitely contributed to its popularity, as it became one of the most widely used video website. Now, promoting a paid streaming platform is a big change, but the company is well aware of what this step means.

The YouTube officials thought this was a necessary step against competitors like Spotify and Apple Music. It was time to take a position against them, and to develop their own group of subscribers. So far, the company earned money from ads. However, the officials are convinced this new paid streaming platform will bring them a lot more revenue.
